A great example of turning lemons into lemonade, Jeannette Charles struggled to gain roles as a fledgling actress as she looked too much like Queen Elizabeth II. After she commissioned a portrait of herself for her husband’s birthday, the resemblance attracted media attention, and a light bulb went off – she could still pursue an acting career if it was near-exclusively playing Her Maj. Her dozens of acting credits included the Queen in Austin Powers in Goldmember, the Queen in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, and the Queen in National Lampoon’s European Vacation. She retired in 2014 but kept true to her Queen impersonation to the end, dying aged 96 just a few months older than Libby herself. She was unique for What’s the Story, Mourning Glory?
