The nom de plume of Henry Patterson, “Jack Higgins” became his go-to pen name thanks to using it for his breakout smash The Eagle Has Landed, depicting a fictional Nazi plot to kidnap Winston Churchill. The success of The Eagle Has Landed, coupled with the subsequent movie, allowed Higgins to live in comfort and pursue a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach to writing further historical page-turners on a near-yearly basis.
