Issey Miyake

ISSEY DEAD? YES

Fashion designer Issey Miyake has died aged 84. Born in Hiroshima, he survived the atomic bombing 7 years later and the horrors he witnessed – including his mother eventually dying of radiation poisoning – inspired him to focus on a life dedicated to creation rather than destruction. He worked in Paris and New York for brief spells before setting up the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo. From there he became a fashion icon, noted for his versatility with material and pioneering work with fabrics. He had many popular clothes, bags, and perfumes, and best recognised of all were the iconic black turtlenecks he designed for Steve Jobs. Miyake was a hit for Easy Peasy Japanesey.
