OLIVER DITCHED
Former top cop Ian Oliver has died aged 82. A chief constable before he was 40, he first served for the Central Scotland Police and later the Grampian Police. No stranger to the media spotlight, he was noted for his opposition to drugs and frequent butting of heads with councillors. Scandal-mired final years ended his time as chief in the late 90s – his force’s bungling of an investigation into the murder of a 9-year-old by a paedo was widely criticised, though the KO blow to his tenure was an extramarital affair. He was a unique for IT’S A COP-OUT 2022.
