ROCK HUDSON

We at the DDP salute character development. Diana Rots carved out deadpooling notoriety in the mid-2010s by plucking their twenty from the previous year’s top teams – assembling a team through this manner is now seen in deadpooler’s parlance as “Diana Rotsing”. Their 2023 return tacked towards originality, and this shift in approach has been rewarded with a unique hit on a notable who in fact was never picked in the DDP before.

Film director Hugh Hudson cut his craft with documentaries and commercials before making his feature debut with Chariots of Fire. His choices behind the inspiring Olympic flick – such as his recruitment of his friend Vangelis for the soundtrack and his usage of lesser-known actors for the main roles – paid off in spades and won a slate of Oscars. He followed suit with Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, the first Oscar-nominated Tarzan film and the last role for Ralph Richardson. His momentum stalled after helming Al Pacino Revolutionary War clusterfuck Revolution, though he continued to direct and receive various gongs. He was 86 and I’m still resisting the urge to quadruple check he wasn’t on any of last year’s top ten…
