BEYOND THE VANISHING POINT
Actor Barry Newman has died aged 92. Newman kickstarted his career with a role in a Herman Wouk play, and would crisscross between film, TV, and Broadway. He zoomed to his biggest fame in 1971 action flick Vanishing Point, a cult classic that depicts his jaded ex-cop on an adrenaline-rushing car delivery mission from Colorado to California and is cited as one of Steven Spielberg’s favourite films. Later that decade he starred in legal drama Petrocelli, and he kept active up to last year. He also was the first cousin of Sumner Redstone, in case the Wouk reference wasn’t enough deadpooling zombies for you. His death was kept quiet for nearly a month but the late unveiling benefits Oscar The Beast and ZZ Topped: Heaven, Hell or Houston.
