Vince Hill

DEADELWEISS

Crooner Vince Hill has died aged 89. He was a minor soldier in the traditional pop army who managed to find footing on the UK charts well into the 60s. His repertoire mostly included Tin Pan Alley standards and Eurovision, and made his biggest chart impact with “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music. It peaked at No. 2 but was blocked from the summit by fellow bastion of excitement Engelbert Humperdinck. Throughout the 70s and 80s he helmed a variety of talk shows, including one where he shared hosting duties with the obvious complement to his music style – Suzi Quatro. Three teams gain now that the Hill’s not alive.
