GRACE UNDER FIRE
Archers actress Ysanne Churchman has died aged 99. She joined the radio mainstay in 1951 as the second actress to play Grace Archer, it would prove a brief-yet-pivotal tenure as Grace’s shocking death in a stable fire drew an audience of 20 million and deliberately overshadowed the launch of ITV on the same day. Churchman revealed in her 90s that she was fired from The Archers as a result of asking for a fairer pay, but in the end still made it out okay hopping to the telly, with a career that included voicing the hexapod diplomat Alpha Centauri in two Pertwee-era stories and one Capaldi one. This distinction makes her the only Doctor Who guest star to play the same role in both the original and the revival. She was a pick for four teams, with Unusual Suspects doubling up.
