ALTERED IMOGENS
Irish sculptor Imogen Stuart has died aged 96. She was known for invoking a blend of Expressionism and early Irish Christian art in mostly religious pieces all over the Emerald Isle, such as depictions of Pope John Paul II and St. Brendan the Navigator. Her style was heavily influenced by a displaced upbringing in Nazi Germany – she was born in Berlin to critic Bruno Werner, who was half-Jewish and went into hiding to survive while Stuart and her sister were moved to Bavaria. A vintage “three months after their death” Telegraph QO we saw all the time in 2014 but less so nowadays, she continues a good run of form for The Sick-Bed of Cuchulainn.
