Carol Raye

THE TICKET-OF-LEAVE WOMAN

British-Australian actress and producer Carol Raye has died aged 99. Born in England, she acted in various film and theatre roles before moving Down Under in the early 60s. One of Australia’s first female media executives, she created and starred in the popular satirical programme The Mavis Bramston Show, which was heavily inspired by David Frost’s That Was the Week That Was. She further became a familiar face on Australian TVs via her portrayal of oft-married socialite Baroness Amanda von Pappenburg in soap Number 96 and routine appearances on the Australian edition of Blankety Blanks. The latest example of the fancy honour kiss of death, Raye received the Order of Australia a week before croaking. Former champion Pity da Foolz attains the unique points.
