Former heavyweight boxer, who caused a sensation in July 1963 by very nearly defeating the young prodigy Cassius Clay. Clay was saved only by his trainer deliberately sabotaging one of his gloves between rounds, thus buying him time to recover from the pounding that Cooper had been giving him. "Our 'Enery" also fought such other big names as Rocky Marciano, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson, but is probably better remembered for his association with Brut 33 aftershave ("Splash it all over!").
