MA CLAVIN DELIVERS
Actress Frances Sternhagen has died aged 93. A popular stage actress who won two Tonys for The Good Doctor and The Heiress, she was also known for film roles such as the sheriff’s wife in Misery. It’s a little-known fact that she also played Cliff Clavin’s bossy Ma in Cheers, with such a memorable dominance over her know-it-all postman son it can be easy to forget she only physically appeared in a few episodes. Indeed, she became a familiar TV matriarch in her later years also playing recurring mothers on ER, Sex and the City, and The Closer. She was picked by Touch of Grey and Lullabye-bye of Broadway.
