Tommy Donbavand

In 2017, the children’s author Tommy Donbavand published Tommy v Cancer: One Man’s Battle Against the Big C, detailing his fight against inoperable stage 4 throat cancer. Last month, he published Tommy v Cancer Round 2: One Man’s Battle Against the Big C (Again) after being diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 lung cancer, following a fight against sepsis that also nearly killed him. The books will not be making it to a trilogy.

Donbavand wrote the highly popular Scream Street series of children’s books, which have been adapted into a CBBC show. He was also the current writer of the Bananaman comic strip, and a back-up writer for the Beano’s Bash Street Kids (which seems to be a bit of a cursed mantle seeming how many of its wordsmiths have died in recent years). His passing sees GUN Away climb back up into fifth place in the DDP standings.
