Jane Powell

ONE BRIDE, ONE WAKE

Hollywood Golden Age actress Jane Powell has died aged 92. Signing with MGM in her early teens, she appeared in Song of the Open Road as Jane Powell, a name she then took on as her professional name. A soprano singer, she sang for Harry S Truman at his inauguration ball (soon after Dewey beat him of course) and also in the 1950s for Queen Elizabeth II. However, it was for her 1950s films such as Hit the Deck and The Girl Most Likely, that she became most famous for. She was one of the Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, a film which is being winnowed considerably in recent years, and also became acclaimed on stage for roles in Oklahoma and My Fair Lady. She was picked by two teams: Goodbyladies and Pool Ghoul.
