Geoffrey Palmer

AS DEATH GOES BY

Dependable character actor and sitcom favourite Geoffrey Palmer has sadly died aged 93. Palmer was a British film and TV regular from the 1950s until recently. It was the scale of Palmer’s successful career that you could ask several people what his iconic role was and get several responses. For some, it was his work in sitcom As Time Goes By opposite Judi Dench, whom he also worked with on the Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. For others, it would be as the feckless brother in law of Reggie Perrin. SF geeks might point to Doctor Who, and comedy fans to Fawlty Towers, cynics to his public opposition to HS2. He could be seen in The Avengers, Cathy Come Home, Colditz, Butterflies, Whoops Apocalypse, Absolute Power, Ashes to Ashes, Bergerac, Hot Metal and was Douglas Haig in the last episode of Blackadder Goes Forth.

Geoffrey Palmer was picked by two teams: Dr Shipman’s waiting room and Bucket O’Hare.
