Daryl Dragon

Originally a surf musician and live keyboardist for the Beach Boys, Daryl Dragon achieved fame as “The Captain”, the peaked cap-wearing half of 1970s cheeseboard easy listening act Captain and Tennille. While Toni Tennille served as the focal point, Dragon handled the overall sound of the band, playing the majority of instruments on daytime radio-friendly fare like “Do That To Me One More Time” and “Love Will Keep Us Together”. However, love failed the pair in 2010 when they divorced, with Tennille citing Daryl’s “inability to be affectionate” and issues with abusing prescription medication as a reason for the split. They reconciled in recent years and she was by his side when he died on January 2 from renal failure.
