Anna Halprin

THE ONE RULE YOU CAN’T BREAK

American dancer Anna Halprin has died aged 100. Halprin popularised postmodern dance, and was a key figure in postwar dance in the USA. She suffered from colon cancer in her 50s but recovered and decided to promote dance as a rehab. Her career lasted 92 years, and one of her finest moments was put together a segregation busting multiracial dance troupe in the 1960s. She chalked up her success to breaking every rule she ever faced, and even wrote about her imminent death and how she’d face it. Twenty one years ago…

She was a unique pick for the infamous WEP (but surely too famous for their tastes!).
