COGNITIVE DEATH THERAPY
Psychiatrist Aaron Beck has died aged 100. He came up with the Beck Depression Index, which is still used to determine the severity of a depressive episode. However, it was in the 1960s that Becks reputation was made. A long term sceptic of the benefits of just feeding pills to people with mental health issues, Beck referred back to philosophy and decided that if you could get a patient to take on their depressive thoughts they could meditative themselves into a better frame of mind. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, which is about building a better mindful defence against mental illness, is now used worldwide and has helped millions of people. Beck was a unique hit for Powder Picks Em Off.
