One of the many intriguing subplots among the DDP this year is a clash between two debuting theme teams, who unbeknownst to each other were submitted very close together, with exactly the same name – Coda -, and similar themes: music vs classical music. The one submitted later has been awarded the indignity of having a “2” placed after their name, but they’re first off the board: German bass-baritone Theo Adam having seen the curtain fall on January 10. Adam was widely regarded as the finest interpreter of Wagner’s works in the 20th century, and is seen by people who know about this stuff as having provided the definitive performance as Hans Sachs in “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg”.
